If you're wondering what type of hard drive is installed on your computer, below are three different ways to check if your hard drive is SSD or HDD in Windows 10.

Check if your computer has SSD or HDD storage

The type of hard disk or internal storage unit installed in a computer can be HDD (hard disk drive) or SSD (solid-state drive).

While traditional HDD (Hard Disk Drive) storage is cheaper to purchase, it is much slower compared to SSD (Solid State Drive) storage.

In addition to providing significantly faster data transfer and loading speeds, SSDs are shock-resistant and consume much less power compared to HDDs.

With this understanding, let's go ahead and look at different methods to check if your computer has an SSD or HDD type of hard drive installed.

1. Find out if your computer has SSD or HDD by defragmenting

The easiest way to check the type of hard drive or storage installed on your computer is to open Disk Defragmenter or Disk Optimizer.

1. Right-click the Start button and click Run.

In the case above, the item next to Media Type is listed as Fixed Hard Drive, which does not clearly indicate whether it is an SSD or HDD type.

However, the first two methods above confirm that the computer has SSD-type storage.
